The development of sport is a matter of public interest and a strategic priority for every Country. Promoting the health and well-being of citizens, instilling values in younger generations, supporting economic development and strengthening the Country's international profile are among the key reasons why public authorities have a responsibility to foster the development of sport. I would like to focus on the first of these reasons: Health. The promotion of health through physical activity (Health-Enhancing Physical Activity – HEPA) has been recognized by both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union as a key policy area that should be systematically monitored and evaluated through specific indicators. According to the 2022 Eurobarometer, Greece ranked second-lowest among European countries in terms of citizens' physical activity, with 68% of the population reporting that they never engage in sport or exercise. This is where Company Sport plays a vital role by providing a practical response to today's increasingly sedentary lifestyles and the growing prevalence of screen-based activities. Through organized sporting activities, Company Sport, enables employees to experience the benefits of regular physical activity, improving not only their own health and well-being but also contributing to the success of their organizations and to society as a whole. Lifelong participation in sport is the key to a better quality of life, and this is precisely the vision that Company Sport promotes. For this reason, the organization of international events such as the European Company Sport Games is of great importance, as it provides an additional incentive for employees to embrace sport and make physical activity an integral part of their everyday lives. I would therefore like to warmly welcome all our visitors to Athens, invite them to experience the renowned Greek hospitality and wish every success to the organizers of the Games as well as to all participating athletes.
